Re: [Electric Boats] Need help with choosing the right motor!

Hi John!
Thanks for a lot of information again:-)
The Agni and Saietta I did not know about, thanks for links. Curves for these motors looks very nice.
But I have bben told there is an issue about reversing DC-motors. The brushes can be damaged..? I asked thunderstruck motors about Perm 132, and they told me that this motor is made for one way rotation only.. If this is tru to most DC-motors its not so nice for a boat (unless I use reverse gear..:-/) But you use a DC-motor John!
How can I know which DC-motors work fine in forward/reverse or only one-way??

A big advantage with a DC-motor, as I see it, is simple speed controll. The last days I have been looking into AC motors and their motor controllers. But It seems to be a very difficult task to program a motor controller for a specific motor.
Do you know which Perm motor Greenstar is using? Perhaps it is one of the AC versions (PMS maybe)..
Regards
Bendik

Bendik,

Here's some performance data and graphs for an AGNI 143 attached. Also here's a 95 R which is a higher RPM/Volt. The R stands for reinforced.

AGNI as you probably now know are now Saietta. No load torque per amp and rpm per volt is based on:

Kt (N-m/amp) = 9.5478 / Kv so if you know one value you can calculate the other for a DC brushed motor of this type.

I just asked Cedric about the Kt, Kv values for his newer 119R motor.

To convert rad/sec to rpm:
