[Electric Boats] Re: Okay, planning my solar charging installation.

Cal,

Just pop your choice of panels into that sheet as custom ones then look at the Outback and see if it gels. I live at 56N, about 6 W and in Summer months of April, May, June, July I get about 2.5 to 3 times the panel STC rating stored in my batteries and 5 times peak. That with flat panels. Optimum angle would only increase harvest by about 10% in Summer months. Keep panels clean. As for winter, forget it in my case unless I start to use east, west, south vertically arranged panels using water reflection with beam of boat facing south or if not fixed then maybe in your case actuators like Capt Quillan or simply a hinged panel that can elevate to seasonal optimum. In a cost benefit analysis probably cheaper to buy a 2nd hand Honda 2kVa generator. 1,600 Watts continuous. Mind you if using LED lighting and just running some instrumental, a small fridge and laptop , solar may do. As for propulsion it requires a rethink like the Arcona 380 Z or Capt Quillan's Ship of Imagination. I use bio ethanol for cooking as brush motor but I guess propane would be fine in your case or possibly subject to yield an induction hob.
