I tried Wine. Couldn't make it work in Wine. Something to do with the driver for the stoopid serial to USB adapter, I think. Why they cant just use a USB port on the controller is a mystery to me. Or why they can't simply port the app to Linux, which has a wide following among us tinkerer types. Seriously, I don't know any DIY shadetree/garage engineer types who don't use a POSIX type OS of some kind. The serious guys don't use kiddie operating systems, for the most part. Except apparently in China. The government probably wants people shackled to a "safe" OS that doesn't give the user too much power. I know they got plenty of smart people there so it is not a brainpower issue. I have a love/hate relationship obviously with Kelly Controllers.
I have not tried the controller configuration utility in a VM, though. But really... I migrate to Ubuntu, only to have VMs on my puter and installing Windohs in them? I'm not going there. Talk to the hand.
Yeah I considered Mint when I finally had it with Windohs. It is a little more windows like, and I have used windohs since 3.1 came out and everybody was like, "why you still using DOS?" Except for a brief flirtation with OS/2 which was an incredible OS. So, the lure of Mint was considerable, but Ubuntu has captured more share, has a better native app store of precompiled binaries, and has a little bit better user support commumity. So Ubuntu it is, for me. If it weren't for the very slight advantages of Ubuntu, I would be using Mint. They are really pretty close, though and I can see why it has so many loyal fans.
Those conversion figures are interesting, but hmmm... I think I am getting into an apples and oranges thing here. I'm like Larry on 3 stooges... sometimes I try to think and nothing happens. Or my head hurtts lol. Maybe some day I will stick shunts in the phase cables and measure true RMS voltage and current, and see what my motor power actually is, relative to my controller power. Meanwhile maybe I better stick to what I am seeing at the controller input, so long as I am likely not exceeding motor ratings.
