Okay, so I have a ME0913 motor just sitting on the boat doing nothing. My bank is 48v. I am thinking about going with 96v. Why? Well, for one reason, to get a higher level of performance out of the big motor. Currently I am running a 5kw motor that likes 48v very much and is rated I think 24v to 72v. 96v is at the top of the rated range for the 0913, the 12kw motor. And if I should happen to change my mind, the 96v bank can easily be reconfigured into two 48v banks. I realize I will probably need to switch from my 2:1 gearbox to a 3:1 or possibly even a 4:1 unit, but that doesn't concern me. I know I will have to upgrade my controller, too, as it is rated for 48v. I was more interested in possble GFCI protection on the high voltage DC, to lessen the chance of a fatal shock. Also any other considerations I may not be knowledgeable on. Input from someone who actually DOES ALREADY HAVE a high voltage DC setup would be most appreciated. We do seem to have our share of armchair engineers here LOL! So, all you guys who actually know what you are talking about, any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.
