Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Mars Electric PMSM question

I will post it as soon as i can get them. The hard drive that I had the start to finish pics crashed and I haven't really taken the time or effort to get them.
I will be trying a motor from a wind generator like yours in a different setup which will use a water wheel mounted thru a specially designed transom platform.
I further intend to design and build it so as to hold the generators, a separate gas diesel genset and dingy rack. Using 12 v. linear actuators to position it precisely where I want. Life will get easier for E-Boats when the manufactures factor all the criteria that actually produces a superior boat. Like the auto industry, in a matter of months they have repositioned themselves as greener machines.
On another note, there are many websites now promoting generators that produce more power output than input which many "experts" claim false. Truth be told, THEY ARE WRONG! It is possible to "rack up" as many motors as you want and keep them spinning without more power than they can output. This is where sailboats excel in the practice. Little power, free thrust and all the generating you want. Many people here and in other areas of similar interest are quick to denounce the concept. These devil advocates are confusing powering a sailboat and powering a planet.
I read here in these threads, about someone wanting to use the rocking motion of the boat....good thought but for those of you interested.....I saw, about twenty years ago, a perpetual motor (V6) in the Smithsonian in DC. This engine would spin continuously for hours with one spin of a hand crank. Perpetual Motion.... a sailboats specialty. perhaps someone here may even come up with a sea cock that feeds a wheel....since gravity and displacement are on our side.....this small idea would out power a solar cell
Oh....if someone is considering that rocking action......check out stuff with waves.....twenty years ago they made giant piezo electric generators of long strands mounted vertically in the ocean from buoys.....just a thought
My problem is, as I stated, got into this as a hobby and never sailed before. So while my setups may work.....it is to be considered experimental.

Rick,

As I read your post and how you were capturing some of the power with a second motor I noticed the similarities in our systems.   I have 2 48volt banks, I charge the one not being used when I motor and was surprised at the energy being put back into the other bank.  I don't have all the gages and electronics to tell you exactly how much but it was worth the effort to make the system.   The difference between yours and mine is that I use a 48 volt alternator from a wind generator and gear up to give it the RPM's needed, works pretty good from the prelim's.   Post some pictures of your system when you have time, I'll have to check my albums and see if I have posted some of mine, can't remember??   chuckle.

I used a thrust bearing, two in fact, and a simple 2:1 reduction.
Although I did like the gearbox setup, I just thought a pulley system is easily handled in a situation.
The shaft of the mars pm motor is coupled to a clutch system for a future expanse of the charging system. I intend to use another similar motor as a generator when the drive is engaged and / or in regen mode. As you may know, these motors have no torque or hysterisis nessesary and all you have to do is be able to send the 'voltage' somewhere... ..hence, my dual battery 48v system!
I had put a system like this running in my garage (under no load) and you would be surprised at how I recaptured lost energy. The system obviously can't 'run' on itself but you CAN (unlike other pundits of energy) recapture more than half spent.
I also intend to add another smaller 24v motor and feed the house bank.

I do have pics and will post when I find the time.
Thanks Rick
