[Electric Boats] Converting My Pearson 300/Throttle control

We agree. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple sailor)
We had this "throttle' issue just a few weeks ago.
It kept us from a perfect sailing weather window in our plans this year.

The morning of departure the switch would not work in forward through the mechanical lever control.
Reverse worked perfectly.
Live and learn.

Pull the throttle cable and extend the switch to the helm.
Take it from two heart broken dreamers of crushed plans this winter.

Funny I just had this discussion over the weekend with someone  who is thinking of converting to electric propulsion. My feeling is that electric propulsion systems should be as simple as possible. IMO using the exsiting mechanical lever to control the electric throttle is asking or at least inviting trouble with the addition of another "failure" point. With an ICE these levers were needed because the the levers that controlled engine speed and the transmission were locted on the engine and transmission. The pots controlling speed on an EP boat go directly to the controller via a wire cable. Adding a mechanical control of the pot is inviting unecessary trouble in the form of a slipping, stuck cable or a misadjustment which would not allow max or minimum range to be achieved. I like to eliminate as many failure points as possible on board if I can.  If the pot controlling my motor should fail one day in a busy or narrow channel I don't want to have to go through the step of thinking that maybe the control cable loosened up, broke or got stuck and then have to take the time to look at that possibility. That said I still think it might be useful to control something. I just would not use it to add more complexity to the electronic throttle control by introducing a mechanical linkage.

You might find one of your old control levers useful for actuating the pot box for your new E system.

In the process of ripping out engine, fuel tank, etc. I have one question from those more experienced. Is there any benefit in retaining the old throttle and gear shift that are on the Edson post mount? I think I can remove them with modest effort but reinstalling would be a significant challenge.

Thanks for the help.
