Hi,
I converted my Alberg 30, which weighs in at 9000lbs.- similar boat to the Pearson, I believe. My usage characteristics are the same as yours- in and out of harbour, and use as an iron stunsail in light airs.I bought the Electric Yacht 130b system, and equipped it with 8 trojan T105 golf cart batteries. This provides around 200 amp hours of juice. How long that lasts depends on how heavy you are on the throttle.
The nice thing about the electric yacht system is that it was easy to install, easy to operate, and you can select between 36,48 and 72Volt operation with the turn of a switch.
I would recommend it to anyone. Also, Scott McMillan, the guy who runs the company was really great to deal with. He is the CTO and knows what he is talking about.
good luck, brad

The boat is a full keel, shallow draft motor sailer with about a 6.9 knot hull speed. Need the motor primarily for getting underway and returning (backing down under sail is possible but a lot of work) and for those days when the wind does not want to cooperate.
