Re: [Electric Boats] Math Check on AGM vs. Lithium Ion Prices and Energy Densities

Is there any concern about putting these packs on a boat, being a wet environment, and there is always a chance of getting wet?
I am sure you have seen what happens when water and lithium mix:

Also, rust, corrosion...

Since some of these packs need to be air cooled, you can not just put them in a waterproof container.

Has anyone actually used a re-purposed car batteries?

You can contact me offline or call West Hills Collision in Portland and ask for Don Blazer.

These are 23-24kwh packs.  Tell him you're interested in the THINK Enerdel battery packs.

Maybe they still have some left and maybe they can ship them---I don't know.

Hey Myles, do you have contact info on those Think Paks?  I would have to get about 2 of them to equal the AGMs I was planning to install.

New old stock THINK Enerdel packs (23-24kwh) can be had here in Portland for under $4500, or under $200/wh --- cheaper still when you consider it includes BMS cards, contactors, cables, etc.

Easily configured as any multiple of 48v.

I imagine one can get surplus LEAF & VOLT batteries these days too.

Lightly used Tesla Model S modules, 5.3kWh: $260/kWh

Lightly used Smart Car modules made by Tesla, 3kWh: $230/kWh

That's the way I would go.
