I'll second that Bob and it's worth reminding those at the start of the journey we all had to start somewhere. 5 years or so I knew nothing about electric stuff. Wigglies as we old ex Royal Navy steam engineers called them electric stuff, frightened us silly! With this list and lots of research, trial and error, I and I assume others got to a level of understanding, sufficient to convert a boat. Money is often the bottom line and a bunch of cash means different things to different folks - and that's what is great. You can start at all sorts of levels. If you're not comfortable converting your own boat you can play with a small open boat and inexpensive motors, batteries etc. Finally there is no absolutely right or wrong way but there are good practices. I've said it before that there's a PDF book written by James Lambden who built Bob's system which is thorough and informative.
Hope that helps.
