[Electric Boats] Re: Heinzmann PERM motors

John,

The PERM model that attracted my attention is the PMS156. Thanks for the Electric Flux link. I read EF but hadn't read that article, although I was aware of the convoluted history.

No, not in Portugal, Australia, other side of the world.

I replied to you about Bellmarine. I like Torqueedo, the BMW & the warranty. However the price here is just so extraordinary it's not even worth exploring this option.

I didn't realise tha Lambden had a new version of the book, he didn't let previous subscibers know. I'll follow that up.

Solbain; you guessed correctly, I was going for efficiency & the self adhesive option. When I first started developing my spec, Solbain were about the only ones around with the self adhesive. I take your point about actual panel area & explore your suggestions.

Genasun; these were state of the art at the time I found Solbain. It's funny learning about your Victron link. I'd pretty much decided on Victron for the blue boxes on the supply side of the setup. Victron are well setup & provide good support in Australia.

Batteries; At the moment my head says Li in series or a bulk pack. You're right about the battery pack, I'm going to need lots. I haven't gone into sizing issues until I decide on a motor. I'll read your comparison article with interest. I'll have an issue regaining my waterline when I remove 550 kgs of engine, 270 litre fuel tank. I need some weight back in but I also want good DOD.

Generator; I looked at Alphagen & Polar but they take me back to all the things I want to avoid with an ICE. I was looking at the Honda i20, with, I think, about 1.6kW output. I have no shore power but only use the boat on a weekly basis. The issue I still have to resolve is, if the solar array that will fit, will provide enough to recharge the yet unsized battery pack.

I've looked at the Victron Multiplus so I'lll read that article with interest also.

Glad you like the boat, this exercise will cost more than the boat is worth. It was built in the days of fibreglass when more was good. The hull is 16 mm thick. However a new 10 metre glass boat would cost over $500K, so that's how I justify it to myself.

Thanks again for providing all the info & links,

Peter
