Re: [Electric Boats] Kits for larger sailboats

Just out of curiousity, I took a look at the BellMarine site. It won't let me download the price list, says something about a "referrer" being deactivated.

Those look like AC induction motors. Are they as efficient as PMAC/BLDC? I was under the impression that they are not, and that they generally require higher rpm to develop peak horsepower. The units I see appear to be direct drive and are rated at fairly low RPM. I wouldn't mind learning more about this. Mostly I am curious about the motors, which the site claims to have integral thrust bearing. I haven't seen any motors besides the Lynch motors that do.

BellMarine has systems up to 50kW (and larger for custom requests). Annapolis Hybrid Marine is the U.S. distributor for BellMarine.

Hi All,

I'm considering purchasing a larger 48', 25-30K# sailboat and I'm wondering what companies are out there that provide motors and mounting hardware to convert it to electric.

I'm familiar with Electric Yacht and am just beginning to research this, but if anyone has any suggestions on where I might get the best bang for the buck, I'd appreciate it.

Bill
