While the PSS and other similar systems work well - especially at high rpms - the Gore GFO packing in a standard stuffing box at low revs can get you dripless with a lot less cost and it stays on the simple side. There has been some testing that even contradicts conventional thinking and indicates the power consumed at the seal is lower than other systems. Admittedly, the article comes through the Gore website and involves higher rpm pumps. In actual use on an eboat, I wonder if conditions can be kept constant enough to get a good comparison.
