Re: [Electric Boats] Re:New Member and question about displacement/surface area

Running the charger as a power supply will depend on the charger.
Many chargers see extended operation at "bulk charge" rates as an error
condition and will cut out.
The ProTournament Quad series have this issue. They are otherwise
excellent chargers from what I hear, especially for banks made up of 12V
batteries.

The Elcon PFC1500 that I purchased (not cheap but really good and decent
support from the manufacturer) can run indefinitely at the full-power
rate. I confirmed this with the manufacturer.

Another option is to install a 48V 20A DC power supply to be run off the
generator. They are available and are not very expensive. However,
they will not properly charge a battery so be careful of leaving such a
device in parallel with your battery bank while running on the generator
for extended periods. I guess making sure the power supply's output
voltage is not higher than the battery bank's charging voltage would
ensure that you don't ruin a battery bank by over-charging.
