Prop size and pitch, and reduction ratio, are interrelated and through a large range you can have more reduction and more prop, or less reduction and less prop, either or. But if u use something like an ME0907 you can probably just use the stock foot from a 4 to 8 hp outboard, and see what you get out of the existing prop. You will want some sort of tachometer. Many motors will overheat running too slow with a load. They are usually cooled by an internal fan so at low, speed the fan isn't moving much air. That's okay if the load is small. More current = more heat that needs to be disapated. Yes, you can carry a 2kw or so gas generator for extending your range. Google for the Bianka Log. Bianka runs on solar, shore charging, regen, and a portable genset, motoring or motorsailing. Remember, you can't have gas on a boat with brushed DC motor propulsion.
