Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Pure or mostly solar powered boat?

Peoria Drivers

In two short years of "non-trailered" boat sailing(that is being a "marina" boater), one thing I've learned is that there are a lot more boats for sale that are not "for sale", than there are boats "for sale". Evidently boaters like wearing anchors(unused, deteriating boats) around they're neck until someone finally convinces them they'd be better off without it.  These boats are often overpriced until the owner finally realizes the boat has little value and less value as time goes on(while they still pay over a thousand a year for it's storage(while it further deteriates).  This is where the really good deals are if one's willing to spend time fixing and updating the boat . . . when(or if) the owner finally realizes the losing situation he's in.  The possibility that this boat is available was told to me after another docker talked to the owner(or family member who lives in the area), came to inspect the boat last summer.

I've been looking at a Bristol 30(about $1000), but the family(owner's in a nursing home now), needs to find the hardware.  In the meantime about $600 is lost(on storage) every year it sits(maybe better said . . . "owed". Maybe they'll eventually give it to me, to save the $600 per year, since last summer they were already behind a year's storage and the kids have no interest in sailing.

Something about boats aren't "for sale", that is absolutely fascinating . . . it's like a phenomenon. These boats are almost like sewerage after flushing . . . out of site/out of mind, til another storage bill comes.

ANYWAY . . .  I have a name and phone number for the owner(if it's the same owner) from an old list of Lake Erie sailboaters.  I wouldn't want to post it on an open email , but can send it to you privately.

I have some pictures of the boat, from when I first heard it could be had. I had the idea of solar panels galore in addition to the wind-generator that's already on board, but decided that even if it could be had for a decent price, it would be too much work for me and that piloting a 14 foot beam or so is way out of my league.
