Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Government incentives?

I hate to jump into a thread most of the way through....but. I think at least for boats we don't really need better batteries, just less expensive batteries. The problem as I see it is that the current US patent and copyright system,  destroys incentive to invite on the manufacturing process side.  The LiFePo cell chemistry was invented in the US, basically little or nothing was done with the technology till the patent lapsed enough for those Chinese companies to start finding cheaper ways to build them cheaper.   Even worst there are a large number of improvements in the anode and chemistry, still under patent, that a lot of US schools and companies are camping on, because they want to license them under ridiculous terms. So they will go completely un-used till the patent lapses enough for those same Chinese companies to start using the technology to start drive down the prices.  I honestly think the times for copyrights and patents need to be reset to the original time intervals with out options to extend.

Then the US might start trying to compete again of making stuff instead of every researcher or inventor trying to make it rich on a patent or copyright.  Sigh.

If you could create that type of energy storage system, you would be the next Bill Gates, only richer. There are thousands of companies world-wide that are pursuing kind of technology. Many of those companies are American. To date, that kind of performance is only fantasy, representing a more than 10 fold increase over what is being done in experimental labs today. I'm not a Molecular Physicist, but I know some and they understand why this is a lot harder than it sounds, and to me it sounds darn near impossible.

I have no idea of the range (at what speed) the Swedish Nimbus 27 e depletes it's batteries or how long to recharge, but if your info is fact, sounds like they could use higher density batts, if I could get that Nimbus 27e to 8 hrs top speed & 2 hrs charging , What would that do for job creation in USA ?
