Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Batteries and Powering Them

Richard:

I am using the 60 amp Dual Pro (15 amp each battery) to top off the bank. But, just to be clear I do not use it in "hybrid" mode to propel the boat for that I use the Zivan NG-1 charger the Dual Pro does not work for that situation.
BTW I will also use the Dual Pro charger if I am at a dock and hooked into the grid for the complete charge but, that is not often the case.

I think you said you can run your dual pro from the Honda 2000i to top off your pack.
What size dual pro are you able to run?
Richard.

Anne:

Exactly!  I'm able to use my Honda 2000i and Zivan charger to propel the boat (around 3 knots in calm conditions) without drawing any amps from the battery bank. I still have about 700 watts of spare power from the generator that I can use for other things like charging the 12 volt house bank at the same time. If I get real ambitious I may add another small 48 volt power supply into the mix to try to bump up the speed a little. But, that's way down on the to do list. As my system works fine as is.  But, as they say your mileage may vary depending on the hull, motor size, motor type etc....

Thanks again for the suggestions, folks. A few more questions, however.

Capt Mike and Eric, you both mention 'driving the boat from the
charger'. I assume you mean running the boat with the generator
connected to the charger?

Jim, what do you mean the wet cells will get 'toasted in a hurry'?
What happens?

Mark, I'm definitely going to call about the refurbished units!
