This is interesting that you have actually measured thrust in these ranges with a 50hp diesel.
running a 6 pitch 8 inch prop at about 2000 rpm prop speed on a 4hp engine is giving almost half the thrust that that 50hp inboard is getting.
6hp engine with same size prop is getting slightly more than half the thrust of the 50hp diesel.. something is badly wrong with your friends diesel or prop.
That or your load cell is badly miss reporting the actually thrust you are getting.
