Bob,
5 kts at 90 amps sounds about right. The reduced power mode is caused by the controller thinking it is too hot. It is unlikely the controller knows the motor temperature. Which controller do you have?

Denny, I don't know the Dia and pitch of the prop. I do know the prop is 2 blade and was mated to a Renault 8 HP diesel,My guess is the dia of 8"-10". The motor is a Mars, 48v I have measured the current. To move the boat at 5kts requires 90a/h,at 20a/h the max speed is 2.7kts. I cannot measure the shaft RPM. I have not measured the motor temp, it goes into the reduced power mode after about 15 min of motoring @ 90a/h. The conroller is not getting hot.
Thanks,Bob--
