RE: [Electric Boats] Re: sun power

Having a big boat and a system based on 144V I don't count on my 2-260W panels to add to the Propulsion Bank (PB) however they take care of all my onboard needs now unlike before when I was drawing down the PB to charge the House Bank (HB)(144V to 12V converter). That adds miles to the PB never the less. I've seen an increase of about an hour running at 5 knots not taking away from the PB. The Solar handles Nav, Frig, Freezer, lights and most important the Stereo. Last season I never drew down the HB more than 50% but on a sunny day and out cruising they were always happy. Than add in the regen from the props (under sail) I could put back in around 600W average to the PB. I figure a fully charged PB on a 20 Hour sail at 10 knots average (open water). This was proven 7 years ago by a delivery captain when he brought the boat back from the Carib to the Chesapeak Bay for the previous owner. They ended up running the A/C off the 144V DC to 120V AC converter to draw down the nearly overcharged conditions.
