Hi Bob. I plan on doing some noise level testing when I get home. I am on a ship right now but I will be home in March. I am using a Baldor 2:1 enclosed reduction gear currently, and I don't think it makes anywhere near the noise that my motor makes. I am currently using a Kelly square wave controller, motor is a ME0201014201 5kw BLDC motor but I also sometimes use a ME0913, and I plan on getting one of the new Kelly sine wave controllers, so I will be doing a lot of noise testing with various configurations. Just subjectively I don't believe the reduction gear in my boat is a significant noise source but as currently configured, the motor is. Still not very noisy, but certainly not silent either.
