Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Belt-drive, noise/loss of effect?

I can't provide any decibel data, but I can say that the synchronous belt on my launch makes a quiet "squish-squish-squish noise as it turns. Not at all bothersome. The brush noise on the Motenergy motor is much more annoying, especially in reverse.

I have installed inboards in two other launches, both have very quiet Leeson brushed motors. They are 1hp and 2hp, each has a 1/2" V belt. Those belts are very quiet, just a low rumble. Although I wouldn't use a single V belt for motors over about 3hp, on low hp motors they provide an easy way to allow a bit of slip in the event of hitting a log.
