Sharing wisdom and cautionary tales and parts information and installation hints and more, is already what we do. It requires work from the new builder to educate themselves to the point of competency by sifting through years of these kind of tips.
Vendors have done this work and put together extremely affordable kits that are often tailored to the new builders' usage plans. It is reasonable, even preferable, to pay these vendors for the many years of blood sweat and tears they have invested in the information project you are suggesting.
It's a 30,000 person-hour job to collate the wisdom of the 5,800 members on this YahooGroup, then offer it in an easy-to-digest series of choices, then daily update the ever-changing parts suppliers all over the globe, then defend against that one idiot who will try to sue someone for mistakes he made in installation or operation.
