[Electric Boats] Re: Belt-drive, noise/loss of effect?

Does that belt use special pulleys?

I have actually been thinking about trying belt drive. I really wanted to go with multiple automotive V belts because they are cheap and available anywhere, but was concerned about friction losses from the sides of the belts. Flat cogless belts seem like they would be the quietest but herringbone should work great, too. I don't mind a little slip actually. It could save my little 1" bronze shaft some day, you never know.

No complaints with my enclosed gearbox, mind you. I just thought I might consider an experimental foray into belt and pulley transmission.
