[Electric Boats] Re: Dual trolling motor question

If they are the el cheapo trolling motors with resistor type control, you will want to run the motors with the controls wide open. They are horribly atrociously fantastically terribly inefficient when throttled down with the onboard control. To actually control them you want a separate PWM controller for each motor. (The Chinese ones on fleabay are ridiculously cheap... go for twice the rating you think you need, and get a spare.) With a little hardware hacking you can probably wire an external switch for reversing, or maybe depending on presence or lack of diodes, just use a reversing contactor between PWM controller and motor. You COULD use the same throttle pot for both PWM controllers and therefore control both motors together, but you would be crippling yourself. Separate fwd/rev control and throttle control for each motor will give you video game quality maneuverability.

If you get higher quality (and price) trolling motors with internal PWM control, a little duct tape and broom handles to extend the tillers, and bobs yer uncle. or go fancy, with radiator hose, hose clamps, and pvc pipe.
