I have a 3:1 dual V belt reduction drive. The motor spins 3k and the shaft speed is 1k. At 5.5mph I am burning 2kW.
I did order the 5kW saildrive kit. I priced out individual components and couldn't really beat their price, and of course the Sevcon programming kit is essentially unobtainable for the pro-sumer.
My boat has a three blade seven inch diameter prop of unknown pitch and cup, plastic.
From what I have studied on propellers, 1000RPM is a bit fast in the high efficiency spectrum.
So, after I change out the motor I would also like to visit the propeller area. I want to replace my V belt drive with a synchronous belt, but only after I have thoroughly evaluated the propeller situation and considered new gear ratios for a larger slower propeller.
I also have a friend who wants to build a Kort/Rice style nozzle for the prop.
