Thanks Tom, now why didn't I think of looking at a Coast Guard page? Even though I am in Canada, I suspect that any specs suggested by any reputable organisation would be honoured globally if an inspection were carried out, or at the worst, a warning notice to change whatever the 'problem' might be, would be issued rather than perhaps something more heavy-handed. Great info, it seems that a very commonsense approach is used, so I can just box the whole unit in, which will work well, as an air supply can then be fed to the motor(s) for cooling, if needed. Carter, I would be careful making assumptions regarding insurance. These days, the premiums can be accepted, then the claim rejected if the requirements are not deemed to be met after the event. Such practices are common in the travel medical insurance business. So, it would seem that the acceptance of the boat for the purposes of getting you to pay is not a real indicator that all will be well if a claim is made. John 3c.
