Re: [Electric Boats] Honda 2000i generator note.

Hey John,

dissimilar metals are dissimilar metals. Most inserts in plastic are
brass and using stainless screws will not stop the corrosion. Fact is
more likely the insert would not survive the choice. I would likely
paint the screws and tap the inserts out with a h4 or h5 tap to make
room for the standard screws after paint was used on them. The option
may be a coating like TEF My first choice would be brass screws from a
bolt house that would likely have metric screws in stalk. I remember the
access panel is fastened with screws that a coin will fit into, and that
would make a special screw out of it. The rest of them are likely just
metric screws.

Indeed I checked on my parts order today from the Honda dealer I ordered the parts from. They had to order them directly from Honda. It's been over a week since the cord broke and it looks like a few more days before I'll even get the replacement screws. An little corrosion prevention will save a lot of time down the road by coating those screws before hand.
