Re: [Electric Boats] ME0913 as generator?

Disclosure: Electric Yacht Dealer

That is what I currently have on my boat.

Yanmar 2QM15 diesel
WE7.0 from Electric Yacht (ME913 Sevcon Gen4)
Installed in Columbia 9.6. (10500 pound dry)
100 AH AGM batteries
QuickCharge SCO4825 (25 amp at 48v) charger for dock charging
48v to 12v to support the 150AH 12v house system

There is a posting from earlier in the year:

21815 Columbia 9.6 Diesel Electric Hybrid
I have posted pictures of my 1976 Columbia 9.6 Diesel Electric Hybrid demo boat. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/electricboats/photos/album/1469361680/pic/list The project...

At 5 knots the diesel will run the electric motor in generator mode at 1.2kw and that is about 25amps at 48v. At 25amps the electric will push the boat at 4 knots. The small diesel will not push the boat and charge the system at a greater load due to its low power - 15hp. When coupled with a future clutch system, the generator load of the system will increase to at least 4kw and possible 7kw. The diesel is used for longer passage making and the electric is used to support motor assisted sailing and in the harbor plus house loads.
