I use coggged timing belts on my industrial lathe refit, with a 2.5 kW
continuous-output ac brushless servo motor, 19 mm D shaft.
Industrial- as in effective torque on my setup is same or greater than a
10.5 kW HAAS ST10, at 55.000€ (102 Nm peak 1200 rpm, == 30-80 Nm at low
revs).
Fwiw.. I was the country sales manager for Haas, Spain, 2011-2012.
My Zero-rpm torque is 90 Nm, upto 1000 rpm, always 90 Nm, peak, for upto
3 secs.
Servo motor output is 10 Nm torque 0-3000 rpm, continuous-duty 24x7,
with a 1:3 transmission, via timing belt drive.
The servo motor outputs upto 7.5 kW for upto 3 secs, called peak
power/torque.
This is *very useful* for cnc stuff, and probably non-relevant for
propulsion marine use.
Drive is HTD, 8 mm profile, 30 mm wide, so HTD-8-30.
Taperlock pulleys.
Drive is very quiet at 200 rpm output, and somewhat noisy at 550 rpm,
about same as a washing machine.
An enclosure of any type will take out all perceivable noise, imho.
The new fancy pulleys/profiles, GT2 etc.. are reportedly less noisy, but
more expensive.
Of note !
Manufacturers of marine stuff told me in person, that the HP ratings vs
cars need to be 500% higher for commercial marine stuff to last.
Propeller loads are impact loads (yes they are, but this is non-obvious).
But..
My HTD8-30 drive can transmit 130 hp at 3000 rpm, and over 30-40 HP at
sub 1000 rpm.
Thus, my experience and feel is that a HTD8-30 is good for about 30 hp
max in commercial heavy-duty marine apps, when driven at around 2000 rpm
or more, in general.
