Eric,
I thought MC Denny’s solution was pretty darn elegant and worth bringing up again. If it were me on that larger boat, figuring range was not real important nor strong currents, a larger motor would be enough.
A well for something like a Torqeedo, rather than a through-hull, creates its own problems. If he expects to need to motor longer distances, then I would join you and say that he ought to build a well to fit the 24 volt Torqeedo Cruise.2.0.

Ed,
I considered the referencing the same project from Denny's recent post on this board, but Denny's Arctic Tern, weighing in at 450# without a ballasted keel, has considerably different requirements than Mike's Bluenose 23 that weighs in a 2100# with a deep ballasted keel and full depth attached rudder.
That said, Denny's project is one of the reasons that I recommended a well and outboard solution.
Fair winds,
Eric
