[Electric Boats] electric outboards

You asked about specs for range, speed and salt capability for outboards.  I could not find a definitive source of information on this subject so I did so for available electric outboard motor data a year ago.  It's in my conversion writeup  http://electricpaddle.com/downloads/swe_pea_conversion.pdf  .  But manufacturers come and go and not all are open about the performance offered so it's incomplete.

Generally, performance depends on speed + battery + motor + boat.  Some system manufacturers- Torqeedo and Electric Paddle have done this for you- look at their sites- look for charts of speed and range against boat type.  Torqeedo is for larger boats and our Electric Paddle is for smaller portable boats.

As I said, other motor manufacturers are generally less forth-coming about ranges and speeds on different boat types and the battery system is separately specified increasing complexity but:  Generally, given a particular boat,  range scales with battery size, speed scales with battery voltage and motor power rating.  All manufacturers state if they're usable in salt.  Both Torqeedo and Electric Paddle systems are saltwater ready.

If you convert an outboard to electric you need to do some engineering or follow in other's footsteps.

Hope that helps  Joe
