Hi Tom,

If you know your fuel consumption you can calculate the approximate hp produced by your engine which is almost never the same as its hp rating.

A diesel engine will burn about 0.04 gallons of fuel per hp per hour while a gas engine will burn about 0.06 gallons per hp per hour. Now if you consider the efficiency of ICE vs. electric you come up with a total different power requirement for moving your boat.

Consider your car or truck and its engines hp rating. If we used all the power our engines are capable of producing the oil companies would be grinning ear to ear on their way to the bank, AND, the repair shops would be on a first name basis with our bank accounts.

Or we would all be using a horse instead of horse power and our fuel consumption would be measured in bails of hay per day.
