The alta system seems nicely packaged.
On the batteries, I like the Panasonic 18650 .. and the upcoming new
2170 even more.
The current Pansonic lion bateries are for 18650-C, at 266 Wh/kg,
and the new ones will be == 330 Wh/kg, an 24% increase vs 18650-C,
so about 178% better than the alta.
And the new 2170 format is about 40% more energy dense by size, ie
volumetrically.
A good way to look at batteries:
About 7 years ago, the top 18650-type cell was about 2100 mAh.
Now, its about 3100-3300 mAh. 47% -57% increase.
The next gen battery this year or next year, will be about 3800 mAh.
Lots of people have made large series-parallel packs, succesfully, using
salvaged laptop packs or car packs.
There are numerous youtube videos.
Also, these packs are made commercially for ebikes, and I can import
them from the manufacturers relatively cheaply.
