[Electric Boats] Re: Motor control without a controller

Using a battery switch to open and close an inductive circuit at high power levels is certain to generate plenty of arcing, which in time will burn and pit the contacts.

This arcing will increase the contact resistance, and then comes heat. Better keep an eye on that switch. Since the burnt contacts will be hidden by the switch body, perhaps your first indication of trouble will be the smell of melting plastic.

Be careful out there. Better yet, now that you know a 48V system is adequate, enjoy the good life with a real controller.

Best regards,
Tom
