Re: [Electric Boats] Converting a 1969 Cal 34 from Atomic 4 to electric

I converted my 8 ton 30 foot sailboat using an ASMO Marine Thoosa 9000 system in 2008. I'm using 8A4D AGM batteries in a 48 volt configuration. I will operate in a three to four knot range for several hours under battery power. When my battery pack drops from 100% to 70-80% capacity I pull out the Honda generator and operate in hybrid mode for as long as I need too. I don't like to discharge the battery bank too much because 1) I don't want to decrease the batteries operating life and 2) Don't want to run the Honda generator longer than I have to at anchor since recharge time depends on how deep you have discharged the bank.  But, thats just how I choose to operate.

I am looking for advice from anyone that has converted a Cal 34 sailboat to electric. Motor chosen? Type of Battery Pack? Results in terms of run length, recharge time, etc.
