Very well said and you have filled in a lot of missing information.
I did suspect that there were some areas where CFR's and ABYC did not cover things.
A wise man once said that rules were for when brains run out. I have always taken the approach when in the absence of a clear and reasoned guideline that one must clearly understand what one is dealing with, carefully analyze it, apply the laws of the universe and come up with a sensible and reasonable solution. It is also important that I am responsible for what I do and not someone else.
Large and high current battery banks do take those kind of thoughts.
