Good morning Bill,
You are in the right ball park with motor size. If you just want in and out of the slip you can undersize the motor. my boat has a 5kw motor and is uses 1000w @ 3.5 knots.
another option is engineless. I know several boat here in Seattle who sail without motors. They sail in and out of the Shilshole marina, which is a pretty big marina. It is the cheapest option, but it is a big leap.
Personally i would suggest buying a motor that is sized for your boat, then find some batteries and scale up your system as you resources (money) become available. I did this and i ran my boat on 24v for a couple months.
good luck and welcome to the joys of electric sailing.

I mostly just day sail, so in and out of the slip,( but may wont a generator to go further, but that will come latter). I wont a basic system to replace the A4. Any suggestions? I am thinking 6 ton displacement means 6 kw motor, and a 2;1 reduction rear. Any other suggestions for the low budget simple fix?
