[Electric Boats] Re: Marine MFD that can read electric motor controllers

Hi John,

I have to say I totally agree re 'simple instrumentation'. Were I doing my system again I'd probably just have the simple solution, a battery monitor (with temperature) via a bluetooth dongle to my phone, giving salon and cockpit readout.

Having said that, that wasn't available nor was the Pi port for my Color Control GX at the time. Still one thing I really like about the Color Control via my 4 G router is remote control, firmware updating etc. I find it very useful to be able to switch chargers on/off from anywhere in the world and have an historical log of batteries and solar etc.

The reality is however that if you know your system and are confident of no overheating issues with controller or motor then really all I want to know when using the electric is how many amps I'm pulling and battery SOC. It's handy having the other info the battery monitor gives me on my phone though, such as temperature, voltage, power, Ah used.

The bottom line is I'm there to sail, not play with electronics - which can be distracting!
