[Electric Boats] Re: Any experience or ideas for newbie electric conversion on Newport 16 sailboat?

Some very nice electric outboards have been built with old gasoline outboard carcasses. There is no axial thrust on the motor so no bearing issues, just coupling and mounting or stabilizing concerns. Oh, and the water pump is no longer needed... Just extra resistance, so toss the impellor.

The aforementioned torqueedo is a simple solution. Also any 100lb or so trolling motor will work dandy and they can be found used for next to nothing. In fact, I suggest having a spare, since they are so light and cheap. You should consider a prop change, since the stock prop is meant for well, trolling speeds.
