[Electric Boats] Re: Electric Repower Next Winter?

Scott,
There are several ways to get to what you want.

  • A small gas outboard will most certainly push you boat and it does not need to be more than 9hp and if you are racing go a bit smaller but not below 4hp (should push you at 5kts) in case you really do need to push the boat against a tide or wind.
  • There are several good quality marine propulsion systems.  These are engineered, built, warranted, are plug-n-play and can be installed by any handy boat wright or owner.  See list below:
    • Annapolis Hybrid Marine
    • Elco Motor Boats
    • Electric Yacht
    • ElectroProp Marine
    • GreenStar (new to the US)
    • Mastervolt
  • There are also kits that require some assembly and a bit of mechanical engineering and mounting skill that will require good skill.  You may save some money but you may spend some time of money with a boat wright to get it right.

What it take to push a Saber 28

Speed & Power Kts Amps Watts 2.1 6 288 2.7 10 480 3.3 20 960 4.2 40 1920 5.3 80 3840 5.7 100 4800 6.1 120 5760 6.7 160 7680 7.2 190 9120 Hull speed 6.41

Final thought about your diesel.  They are a bottomless pit once their effectiveness has gone.  Rebuilding is only temporary and will continue to degenerate.  That being said, there are those who are looking for any working diesel and will give you money for it or remove it and take if off your hands.

Lots to think about.  This blog if very good at sharing their experiences.  Many have built their own and other have plug-n-play systems.
