Re: [Electric Boats] achieves 2.8 times the speed of the wind

I was skeptical then I discovered a colleague of mine built this 2.8 land cruiser and he's ready to sell it the clear out his storage in the bay area of SF . . . here are those details:

"Well folks, it's time to close the book on the downwind cart. It did
everything we were hoping it would. It set a record going directly
downwind at 2.8X wind speed, and another for going directly upwind at
2.1X wind speed. The cart got a surprising amount of press (which
came as a surprise) and stirred up plenty of controversy on countless
blogs and forums. But perhaps my favorite part is something I just
learned yesterday - The American Association of Physics Teachers used
the DDWFTTW cart as the basis of one of their questions when selecting
the group of students to send to the International Physics Olympiad.
I had always hoped it would do what brain-teasers are supposed to do -
challenge your gut and make you think out of the box.
But it's time to clear it out and make room. So now you can find it
on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281114481020#ht_1236wt_1394
If you know anyone in the market for a downwind cart with low miles
and original owner - please pass the link along.
Thanks. It's been a fun ride."

The reason why it works are obvious on study - - look at the size of those propellers compared to the small point of contact of the rear wheels in contact with the hard packed sand or runway/road.

Similarly, the useful limitations are obvious too :)
