Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Sea trials

We went out yesterday with intention of serious motor trials, not really, then just had to raise the new tan bark sails and there went any possible serious data collection. But OMG the fun factor kicked in. With flutter in the sails we were just faster than the little boats and almost as fast as the stinky boats and nobody knew why. And with the big formosa out sailing everything in the water in really light winds I don't think it will take them long to figure it out! Or will it?

We were out for 6 hours 16% battery discharge, easily enough power to control and make head way against the SF bay tide surge, the wow the WOW factor hasn't even begun to sink in. There are a few small concerns with one of the two motors?Electric Yacht, Scott is being totally supportive, we are getting a replacement motor and then pulling the unit down to check problems manually, but there will be the replacement part sitting next to me when we are checking what's up. So i will only need to disassemble the unit once and just fix it there and then, it ,Maybe nothing but then I'll have a spare motor and I won't be sitting around with my new motors in pieces, twice. Elation at only having 1 morning of down time.

Sailing was electric yesterday on the Bay, the pirate festival was in Vallejo so sailing past that was a must do. The big LiFePo bank charged over night and I gotta say the charging system as a whole is less noisy than you will believe.   Back to point of wow, when you pull into the slip and plug in shore power, knowing that when you are ready to leave the tanks are full? The not going to the fuel dock! Ever again, WoW and on a big boat, biggish, the fuel dock is never a place I have fun stories about, the mess really is gone, WoW.

6 hrs of electric sailing and running at very low amps, my numbers are a state secret which I will only share with the masses at a later time, maybe. The select few can ask questions privately and we can figure out between us as to how to explain them to the masses?

Hi Pitt,

Unfortunately, I'm too far away (SoCal) to join you for a last minute excursion. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your performance specs, there's not much in the way of real world specs for a boat your size. With accurate measurements, we should be able to extrapolate target performance numbers for a number of boats that fall in between.

And I can relate with the wait for Lithium cells. Mine took about 4 months and I was one of the last successful shipments that came through EV Components in Washington.

Fair winds and good luck with the trials.

Well I started here at the EB site and read everything, I was sooo confused, I went to the dealers and had trouble finding the right one, the boat is too big was the advice back then. Well Scott at Electric Yacht had developed a package for a customer in LA. I took a road trip and helped out with the intsallation and was sold. Then comes the decision to drop in a LiFePo bank 48v 540AH. OMG the waiting to get the batteries was a b1tch. Installation was fun and splashing was great. Oh yeah I dropped this packet into my 41Formosa Ketch 28 000lbs, I surfed her out of the Napa river after a 20 month dry spell. There were a few problems with the initial run and those we are trouble shooting with Scott as we speak. The level of customer service with Electric Yacht is great, I am an electrically disabled customer and they have held my hand and helped get it all done. Great effort from them I cannot praise enough.

Obviously I would prefer an amazon goddess with an interest in electrical boating, however if you have an EB or looking to take the plunge then you should take a look also? I was thinking a ride from the Marina to the mothball fleet and back. Short notice maybe but what an opportunity? I was thinking about a 2 pm departure?
