Was just checking some of the youtube videos and according to the one video they are running in excess of 90 mph-that is fast.
James,I think the popularity is lagging behind for electric powerboats. Battery technology is there but there is a great deal of expense to install enough Volts and Amp Hours of battery power to sustain any kind of speed and range. And for powerboats recharging batteries requires plugging in at the dock. My 26' Pacemaker will cruise 5.5 knots for 4 hours; then I have to plug it in. Hybrids are available but expensive. When I can run from a reasonably priced DC generator (or recharge from the same) I will get the speed and range I want. Many are working on these issues as we speak. Soon the business of electric boating will become popular & mainstream. There are a few fast electic boats out there and yes many are in Europe although there is one manufacturer out on the west coast. Interested in a video? At this point, interest seems to be limited to environmental activists or experimental hobbyists, neither description seems to fit the average power boater in this country.
EV's are struggling against the same issues, other countries are more successful in marketing electric solutions because it seems that their consumers are more realistic about their usage requirements.
Once you're up and running, I'm looking forward to hearing about how your boat will stack up in price/performance/range against conventional boats on the market.
