[Electric Boats] Re: OZ

I've just talked to them on the phone regarding prices.
They are a swedish company and a more and more ppl here (I live in sweden) have them installed. Some new boats are delivered with the engine installed (as an option to a diesel), so they have the market over here.

There's also some articles in swedish about the engine, everybody seems happy with it from what I hear. They have been selling the engine since 2001(!) so I guess they are old in this business..

What differs the engine from other suppliers engines is that they have built in a lot in their controller - it supports getting out 12v for your other boat needs and you can put 2 12v chargers right into the controller and it loads all your batteries. The engine itself runs on 24v I think, but when running in the economy speed (3 1/2 knots for my 30 feet 3 tonnes sailboat, estimated by OZ) - it switches to 12v. The economy mode stats looks good, you could go 10 1/2 hours or so (data still based on my own boat estimated by OZ) with 6 100 amps batteries running in that mode.

On the other hand.. it only has set 3 speeds forward and 2-3 backwards, and then a regen mode.

There's a couple in their 60's who has gone thru the world with it and have a blog in swedish, the only problem they seemed to have was in the beginning when the controller became very hot, but that was due to cables not tightened enough. Other than that the engine wasn't mentioned much which must be considered to be a good sign.

Regards,
Jeppan
