Sorry I did not see this before. A few years ago I put a Ray 36 volt
outboard on an 18 foot Alantic City Cat boat. Great looking launch with
pretty teak that was comfortable and easy to handle. The 6 six volt
batteries gave me about 5 hours at 6 knots. I did need to remove the
center board but the existing wood tiller attached easily to the Ray
housing. I had found a newer Ray on EBay for $1,200 which made for a
bargan on the total cost. The motor was attached with a standard SS
outboard holder.
Problem I never really solved was that the battery weight turned the
self bailing system into a self sinking system. Bilge pump and a plug
made the boat usable but I never really felt safe. Now have gone with a
used 18 ft. Duffy (also from EBay). Simple, low cost and just as
usefull.
I also have an old (1959) Polar Kraft speedboat with it's Evinrude
outboard converted to 36 volt electric (Motor Guide). No problems on 3
twelve volt batteries. Onboard charger is better set up than what comes
with the Ray. Does 4 to 5 hours.
