[Electric Boats] MinnKota Motors

For years, MinnKota has been the trolling motor of choice, but recently, I'm not so sure.

In the last year, I've had several with magnets coming loose from the inside of the motor housing.

And, just this week, I noticed that the usual choices of 30, 36, 40 ,45, & 50 amp motors of the smaller diameter (3.25") . . . have been reduced to just two choices - 30 and 45 amp. The difference has always been the length of the motor and windings.

It gets more interesting. The 30 amp motor used to be 5.25" long and I never could get the rated 30 lb thrust out of it. Now it is only 4.125" long and I question its ability to match its predecessor's performance.

The 45 amp is now 6.125" long and I can't imagine it could be 50% more powerful than the previous 30 amp which was 5.25" long.

Prices at Bass Pro are $114.99 and $209.99
