[Electric Boats] Dan's Hybrid idea

Well I could not sleep last night and my brain was in overdrive. A came up with a few ideas. Lets see how many holes you can put in them.

Lets start with a mission.

Travel down a long river or canal. Not for speed but economy or distance.
Model: Using the PMAC type motor geared 2:1. 48v system.

Taking off from the shaft end of the motor coupler. Prop shaft coupler, then a timing gear on the shaft between the coupler and shaft seal. 5 to 10 hp gas or diesel sitting in the cockpit forward. Belt through hatch attached to timing gear on engine (Reduction to be determined). No alt or starter.

To use, install belt, tighten adjustment until snug. Turn on ignition, put motor in forward until engine starts. Once engine starts I think you can put motor in neutral and the engine will charge the batteries through the motor as long as you go more than 5 kts. If you do not need to charge the batteries I think you can move the lever to minimal amps and not put any strain on the engine while not using any battery. Engine has to be geared so you can never exceed the limit of the motor.

Option #1; Have an alternator on the engine that can charge the batteries.

Option #2; Use a snowmobile type clutch so you do not have to remove the belt to use the motor. Or an electronic clutch on the engine.

This evolved into a true hybrid, remember I could not sleep. See Hybrid idea #2
