Re: [Electric Boats] flexible AGM installation?

John;

I will look forward to the new space you have to work with.  That will allow us to locate the batteries on or close to a good balance point.  Makes the frame easier to slide fit to your needs.  On my power boat I relocated one extra battery to the port side, to offset my normal weight at the helm, that would work for fore & aft cockpit weight too.  One of my club fellows used sand bags ( could use any potting soil ) to balance the weight, I used sand filled tubes from winter pickup traction weight assists in my truck, they are about a battery weight ( 60 lb.) for deep cycles.  I can get you a weight estimate when we figure how many amps you need for run time, plus a frame weight, more time more weight and cost of course at 50% charge for most use.    One of my guys tried a small genset, while running on the batts – emergency on the river – not a good idea but he did get home.

Thanks, have a great Monday,  Cal

Cal,

Thank you for the reply. I will be returning to my boat on Tuesday and very specifically measure the area that I am thinking about utilizing. It is the space between the top of my concrete keel and the bottom of my fiberglass floor. The width of the keel is about 6-7" and I have about 10 inches in height. I need to see if this free space runs further forward than where I looked the other day. ( I have a never used fiberglass water tank that could be cut into) Not utilizing the tank space, there is a useable length of about 35", cutting open the tank could yield an additional 20 " or so.

What size are the cells that you are referring too? Where are you located? Weight? Ah? Do you have a business/name?

Many Thanks, John
