It is a homebuilt sailboat with classic lines, 26 ft of waterline, 10ft beam, 42ft length with the bowsprite
I was thinking of a golf cart motor...?

Martin,
What is the make and model of your boat. Is it a sailboat or powerboat? If it is a custom share the Length Over All (LOA), Length of Waterline (LWL), Beam, and the 18000lbs displacement. This will give us the information to recommend a propulsion system power requirement,
50hp seems like a lot of power for sailboat with a 18000lbs displacement. Even the Westsail 32 at 19500lbs and 32ft did not have a 50hp motor in it?
